OpenSpace vs Sablono
Why companies choose Sablono vs OpenSpace
OpenSpace is a reality capture and AI-powered analytics tool that streamlines quality control. Sablono is a construction project management software solution that connects progress, quality and cost to provide accurate insights and true visibility across your project.
Sablono's Planned vs Actual Dashboards allows you to see how you're performing against your plan so you can adapt accordingly to deliver on time. OpenSpace does not have planning or scheduling capabilities, so it cannot show you how you are performing against your plan.
OpenSpace does not provide commercial insights. However, with Sablono, you can access accurate commercial insights to help you avoid payment disputes, manage your costs and streamline payment valuation.
With Sablono your trades report directly in the platform using structured answers, which provides accurate, easy-to-interpret data. Percentage complete values are based on the number of activities that are marked as ‘complete’ and standards are assured by attached QA checklists.
OpenSpace installs another step in your reporting flows by using AI to analyse visual data which creates the risk of outdated insights due to a short, but still present time lag.

Getting an accurate, real-time picture of progress
Sablono provides an accurate, real-time picture of what is actually happening on-site.
With Sablono, the status of work is tracked ‘in the moment’ as your trades complete their work to provide real-time status updates.
Trades report progress on-site from the Sablono app and before they can handover an activity, they are required to complete digital QAs and upload relevant documents and photos - all of which are directly attached to the units.
You also be able to clearly see "who did what when" thanks to structured, detailed data.
OpenSpace works with historical snapshot data
As a "capturing tool", in OpenSpace, 3D cameras attached to helmets capture work across the site as it is being completed.
After this, the OpenSpace Vision Engine automatically maps photos to your floorplans - this takes about 15 minutes. An AI model is then used to calculate the percentage complete to give insights like "80% complete".
Although this process is relatively fast, it still creates a time lag between when the activity is completed and when it is finally synced with the plan. As things onsite can change in moments, this runs the risk of inaccurate, outdated data.
On top of this, although visual data interpreted through AI can provide some insights into how your project is progressing, there is no reliable way of understanding who did what.
Knowing how you're performing against the plan
Sablono has features Planned vs Actual capabilities
Sablono's planning and scheduling capabilities allow you to track your run rate against the plan based on accurate progress data. You can then use these insights to quickly detect who's falling behind so you can take action to fix it and optimise your overall performance.
With the platform, you can automatically generate S-Curves and Planned vs Actual analysis to understand delays and their implications. While connected workflows allow you to see how changes will impact other parts of your project so you can adapt accordingly.
OpenSpace does not have planning and scheduling capabilities
OpenSpace calculates the percentage complete but as the platform does not have planning capabilities, there are no planned values to compare this to.
This means that while it's possible to visualise the current progress and answer the question "How far along are we?", you won't be able to answer questions about how you're performing against your plan.
Preventing issues rather than simply fixing issues
Sablono provides proactive quality assurance
Sablono provides robust quality assurance and quality control features that allow you to not only fix issues - but also put measures in place to prevent issues from happening in the first place.
With Sablono, you can create quality workflows before you even begin works to ensure compliance. Predefine everything from the flow of trades, hold-points and QA checklists, roles and responsibilities and more.
You can make sure issues never go unnoticed by reporting all your quality data in one system. Attach digital QA checklists directly to your activities and have trades complete these along with attaching relevant notes, documents and photos. You can even embed management sign-off into your workflows for extra peace of mind.
Sablono also provides an automated quality audit trail that provides a full retrospective view of your project down to the smallest detail of "who did what when". This allows you to spot patterns and understand the root of quality issues so you never make the same mistakes twice.
OpenSpace provides defect management
OpenSpace acts as more of a defect management system, allowing you to raise issues by attaching notes to images when an issue is spotted onsite.
While this is helpful, it is more of a reactive approach to quality management, focusing on fixing issues rather than preventing them.
In addition to this, OpenSpace does not have QA checklists.
Getting accurate commercial insights
Sablono provides accurate commercial insights
Sablono provides accurate commercial insights by linking costs directly to your site activities to provide insights into what the status of your project means for your finances.
You can assign a budget to all your work packages and activities to clearly monitor budget consumption so you can stay on track.
Sablono also allows you to see forecasted upcoming costs for your project based on your programme. Because all your progress, quality and cost data is connected in Sablono, you’ll receive accurate predictions based on real project data.
You'll also always know who needs to be paid what. By assigning costs to work packages and activities, Sablono automates commercial valuations and payment application processes for individual packages, contractors, material suppliers and more.
OpenSpace does not provide commercial insights

The need for site walks
Sablono eliminates the need for uncoordinated site walks
With Sablono, uncoordinated walks are no longer required since the trades report the status of activities directly in the Sablono app.
This means that the question of "what's the status" is always at your fingertips. Managers simply open the Sablono app and view what is happening, then if an issue requires their attention they can go directly to the source without wasting time walking the entire site.
OpenSpace requires comprehensive site walks
With OpenSpace, comprehensive site walks are still required to capture 360° photos via the helmet-mounted cameras. This means that site managers may spend a considerable amount of time collecting data instead of carrying out other more value-adding tasks.
